The new different

On the 23rd of April in Spain there is a tradition of giving books to family to commemorate the date of Cervantes and Shakespeare’s deaths. It is a time for reflection and planning.  As economies start to emerge from the pandemic induced restrictions, companies face a unique opportunity for reflection, planning and renewal.  I am convinced that 2021 marks a moment of fantastic opportunities for companies willing to lead and innovate.  We have heard a lot of talk about the new normal, I prefer the expression the new different to describe what lies ahead.  It is too early to decipher what the lasting effects of the changes we have all experienced over the last year will be, however there are three clear trends that all companies wishing to win during this recovery period will have to build into their working model:

Connectivity: The way we work together and the way we communicate directly with our customers and end consumers has changed radically and permanently.

Climate: Sustainability is no longer an after-thought, market forces and consumer power will demand that the full product lifecycle and business model proposition take sustainability requirements seriously – there is a huge amount of innovation potential here.

Resiliance: The impact of Covid on the world economy has left very few in doubt that the biggest threat to our day to day economic systems comes from a pandemic, and that we have to build resilience and slack into our health systems, our education systems and our companies.  This time economies have dodged a bullet thanks to massive and coordinated government intervention, next time we will need to be more prepared.  We are already seeing that clients who had build slack and resilience into their economic models are winning the recovery as competitors are encountering serious supply chain issues.

Mulcahy Consulting is actively working with our clients to help them adapt to these trends and become leaders within their own industries as economies return to growth.
